Ricoh is trotting out its first ultra-wide-angle zoom lens for its medium format 645 camera system aiming at landscape and architectural photographers and anyone else in search of a wide-angle of view. The HD Pentax-DA645 28-45mm F4.5 ED AW SR lens delivers a 22-35.5mm equivalent in 35mm format and features a rounded diaphragm for smooth bokeh. It offers a quick-shift focus system that lets you switch to manual focus after your subject has been captured by the camera's autofocus.
Here’s a look at some of the other features you'll find on the new lens:
Ricoh promises up to approximately 3.5 stops of optical image stabilization in the lens.
Weather-resistant body: like the 645 cameras themselves, the 28-45mm lens will be dust and rain proof with the company's Super Protect coating defending the front of the lens from water and grease smears.
The lens features both HD and Aero Bright coatings to reduce flare and ghosting under tough lighting conditions.
The lens includes 17 elements in 12 groups with two aspherical elements and two extra-low dispersion elements.
Ricoh will include a redesigned lens hood to accommodate the image circle of the 645.
The lens will also be compatible with 82mm lens filters and will retail for $4,999. Look for it in late August.
Ricoh has also thrown a new Pentax Q-series mirrorless camera into the highly competitive market for compact system cameras.
The $499 QS-1 sports a 12-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor, a 3.2-inch LCD and 1080 HD video recording at 30 frames per second (fps). The movie mode on the QS-1 has been upgraded from previous models with the addition of Continuous AF mode, which lets you track a moving subject during motion recording, ensuring they stay in focus (this feature won't work with every Q-series lens, including the 06 Telephoto).
For the fashion conscious, the camera will be offered in 40 (count 'em) color and grip color combinations. The exterior gets a synthetic leather front panel as well, a first for the Q series.
